Its Types

Stage 4 Pleural Mesothelioma

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is known to be the most common form of mesothelioma. In fact this type is the only form where it has its very own staging system. In the past three years, almost three kinds of staging have been developed for pleural mesothelioma. The Butchart System is known to be the system which is being used most commonly worldwide.

Stage 4 Peritoneal Mesothelioma

In the case of peritoneal mesothelioma, you will not come across any staging system. It is so because you will not come several cases which has been documented so far which will help to create a formal staging system. However doctors will be able to state at which stage peritoneal mesothelioma is. They would do so by reviewing and going through the cancer staging guidelines which was also published in the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual.

Stage 4 Pericardial Mesothelioma

Just like peritoneal mesothelioma, there is no formal staging system in the case of pericardial mesothelioma. Since it is quite rare, it is not been possible so far to track the disease before it enters the final stages of mesothelioma. Usually it gets diagnoised at the stage of autopsy, when the patient is no more alive.
