Home Remedies for Cold and Cough for Children

Cold and cough is a problem that takes long time to cure. When your children are infected with cold, this is the most difficult time for parents to see them coughing all the time. Running nose, stuffy nose, headache, sore throat and cough will make your child irritable and he will not be able to concentrate on his studies. There are several ways by which you can treat cough in kids, but essential oils for kids cough are recommended as alternative therapy. Many times physicians suggest taking antibiotics and decongestants. When your child is suffering from cough, in this condition he is unable to eat properly, he cannot sleep and feels exhausted all the time. Continuous use of medications will also make him drowsy and many side effects may come up.

Steam inhalation

This is a wonderful treatment for cold and cough. You simply need to put a couple of drops of the recommended essential oil in it and inhale the steam. Steam inhalation will moisten the air passages. This will help you get rid of mucus when you will cough or below your nose. Eucalyptus is recommended in the steamer because it has wonderful decongestion properties. You can administer it at bedtime. This also helps in taking a good night sleep and is safe for children.

Heat pack

When your child is suffering from any such condition, you can use hot water bag. It will give good relief in coughing and throat irritation. You can use it on chest and back to relax the muscles.

Turmeric and pepper

If you want to take home remedies or natural remedies for your kids, turmeric plays a significant role. You can use it in combination with pepper and milk. You can prepare this mixture by adding a pinch of turmeric and pepper with a little amount of sugar to a glass of milk. Boil the milk, consuming it lukewarm will give you good benefits. Pepper and turmeric is known for its antibacterial properties and losing the mucus. Phlegm is accumulated in the stomach because children cannot get rid of it and they swallow it. Consuming pepper and turmeric will clear the throat and stomach.

Ginger and honey

Take freshly grounded ginger and add a teaspoon of honey. Give one a spoon to 3 times in a day to your child. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and it will give instant relief in your throat. Honey also has antibacterial properties and a natural expectorant.

Honey and draw turmeric

The juice of raw turmeric with honey is recommended to get rid of dry cough that is troubling your kid throughout the day or at night. This mixture has proven itself and as they say, it has miraculous healing powers. Turmeric and honey both have medicinal properties and when you combine them, you get excellent results. Even the chronic cough was healed in just a couple of days.
